The Oak Tree Story
My name is Joanna, and I am a Traditional Midwife, Certified Professional Midwife, and Licensed Midwife in Wisconsin. My husband Chase and I have 4 children. Maverick was born and passed in 2006 at a perinatal intensive care unit in Missouri. Levi is 10, Ruth is 8, and Shifra is 6. They were all born at home. My girls were my unassisted births.
I would say my midwifery journey started back at the end of 2006. Since then I've known I wanted to be a part of helping women and their babies. However, it wasn't until I was pregnant with my son Levi that I realized the path I was meant to take. My midwife, Jeanne Bazille, heard my desire to serve women and sent us to Jody, a doula and Bradley Method Instructor (at the time). I began attending some births as a doula. Soon after, I apprenticed under Jeanne from April of 2013 to June of 2016. During that time I also attended births with a few other midwives. When my apprenticeship ended Jeanne and I became partners. Since Jeanne passed away I have been working on my own—continuing to do what she so graciously taught me. I am so pleased and joyful to work with birthing mothers!
